Advent calender's
I noticed a tweet this last week from some one I follow and thought oh wow what a great idea I wish I could do the same. Then on reflection thought well actually Karen you do sort of do this already. More about that in a mo.
So the idea was you have a box or basket in you house. Say the kitchen and each day instead of taking some thing such as your piece of chocolate out. You put something IN such as house hold foods. Tins of beans that sort of thing.
Oh I have just had a great idea. When are they going to do advent calender's for diabetics. I suspect they do them already. Whoops sorry brain wandering there.
Any way each day you fill this box with things and then hand it on to a food bank or charity that will give it to the homeless or people in need. What a great idea and if I was in the UK I would definitely do it and I really hope it catches on.
Here in France however we have charity's that stand at the entrance of your local supermarket. We called in to one of ours just yesterday and there were two young people standing with carriers to give you. It's the normal thing at this time of year. You then if you wish whilst doing your shop pop a few food items in such as rice, pasta, TEA and that sort of thing and give it to them on the way out. It takes the hard work out of giving and the charity dose get the help. Your NOT going to walk out with out giving something. Which yes is hard on people but we can often forget that we are better off than some and we all need a little nudge at times. . However skint we are and Christmas is NOT about what we get but about giving to other's. That dose not have to cost as we would say an arm or a leg but small gifts given in kindness are worth so much more. John and I never have spare money this place swallows the lot but you can give a hand ware needed and you can share a meal with some one. Another friend posted this week that our old library in Plymouth will open on Christmas day. Just to drop in and see a friendly face.
One of the great charity's in the UK is to have Christmas with some one that's on there own at this time of year and each week. I am sure we ALL know some one in that situation. Go on ask them to dinner. Get to know them better. We can all be a bit blind to whats going on around us I know I am at times. But lets take five minuets to think of others at this time of year.
