Mobile phones Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Talk about a love hate relationship with them honestly what wonderful devices they are. By the way I grow up when there was a big A and B on big black phone inside that big red phone. Yes that was the case and would you believe in Scotland were still being used until 1992.

The Joy I have of being allowed to press the button when I was told. People did not have a phone in the house. We walked half a mile to find one. I remember Friday evening and walking to the phone box to talk to my father. He was in the Nottingham area whilst we were in the south of England. Oh and buy the way we had a set time to call him. Yes you guessed it he was in a phone box there. He had sent the phone number to us via a letter not a text / SMS.
This makes me sound very old but in truth shows how fast things have moved forwards.
When John and I moved in to our first real house after married quarters we had a party line. Yes we shared a phone line with some one locally and we both had the same number. Every time I picked the darn thing up the other person was on it. In the end we got our own phone line. It drove me mad until we did.
As do mobile phones for the following reason.
In truth they are great, a life saver at times. There when I am stuck in the UK and want to talk to my small son. Or when the car breaks down and I am stuck in the dark with helpers at 1 am and have no idea how I am going to get home.
But there is a time and place as I have said.
A few years back another helping host told me, that she found one of her young helpers out on the road, when he should have been doing something for her. She asked him what he was doing, as there he was, glued to the screen very intently. To which he replied there are loads of Pokemon here. hahahaha. This was back in the day when the craze hit the world. You have to laugh and as she polity told him not on her time.
In the last year most helpers here have been great. But we did have a couple that even at dinner time, the phone was far more important to them than the conversation that was going on. Although I asked them to turn the darn things off they thought that having it on there lap, yes still on was Ok. What really made me smile and I was not so rude was that one thought that this was OK even glancing side ways to see if I was watching them and carried on texting. What made me even more angry about it all, was the conversation included them and what we intended to do later in the day. So when later came they had no idea and I had to explain every thing all over again, because they were more interested in the cute kitten or what ever on there phone was more interesting. Charming.
This coming year I am going to say NO phones at the table or when working lock it away and please do not carry it with you. FULL STOP
We have to start making a stand some ware with things as I feel at times they are taking over.
So I am sorry but turn them off put them away and have a chat to the person next to you on the train or bus. You never know they may be really interesting and become you new friend. Yes it dose happen
Now I have had a good moan have a great week.
Love and blessings Karen
